| Jan 15 2002 | Metal Beast Demands Attention |
| 14k miles. It's angrilly telling me Service! when I turn it on. I suppose I should take care of that. |
| Mar 10 2001 | 55 miles per day? No longer! |
| 10k miles. Just in time to move to a new house, 4 miles from work, so I won't be putting billions of commute hours on poor little car anymore! Yay! :) |
| Jan 11 2001 | Service |
| Service went fine, save for it being downpour-level rainy. They couldn't find the little rattle in the door I complained about, nor the tendancy of the radio to blink its display or untune occasionally. |
| Nov 28 2000 | ding! |
| Got hit by a rock. Three inch dent and a sizable paint chip were the result. Fooey. Three-hundred miles until my scheduled service window.. called to make an appointment.. they can squeeze me in on January 10th. Goodness. |
| Aug 27 2000 | plod, plod, plod |
Hum dee ho. Not much excitement lately. Six-thousand miles. Ding. Still slowly accumulating parts for my audio install... |
| Aug 13 2000 | No more letters! |
On a whim, after washing today, I got out the floss and goo-gone and took
off the little 'A4 2.8 quattro' letters off of the trunk. I think it really cleans
up the lines of the car. Pretty.
|
| Aug 11 2000 | Sounds! |
Yay, my Empeg arrived today. The display matches perfectly. *happy*
Now to figure out how to install it, and what various other toys to get along with it. I'm open to suggestions. :) |
| Aug 2 2000 | 4k, time to start fiddling |
Four thousand and someodd miles. I'm still happy. Have come to realize it's a bit
more compact than I thought it would be. I always feel bad now for making people fit into
the back seats.
Oh well, I don't have that many friends anyhow. :)
I ordered an Empeg yesterday. Now I've got to plan out
what sort of cd-headunit to get, plus amplifiers.. and do I want to put new speakers in now,
or later.. and what about subs? Decisions, decisions..

| Jun 19 2000 | Danger, Erupting! |
Twenty-four hundred miles. Seem to have found a bug in the radio. It likes to advance the tuning
one notch once in a while when it's first turned on. Not a big deal, but annoying
nonetheless.
Running low on windshield washer fluid. It beeped angrilly at me, and now displays
only an erupting volcano on the display.
|
| Jun 4 2000 | LA baby! LA! |
| Woo, 1000 miles on the engine, break-in is over! So I drove to LA!
Went to a Ren-Faire. Huzzah. Had a good time. Put another thousand miles on the car. It's much more fun to drive now that it's kosher to push the revs high. Zzzoom! |
| Apr 29 2000 | Oooh, shiney! |
The car got a good washing today. Wheels sure do get dirty. Water spots
are devils to fight on the body. I got a fancy-smancy chamois, but it was such a
pain to coerce into drying anything I just ended up using a soft towel. Ohwell.
I find myself wishing the aerodynamics of the car did not direct the full force
of the outside air directly at me when I have the windows open. Very bluffetty,
very noisy, very hard to look cool when your eyes are watering and your hair is
getting swirled around like a hurricane when you go over 30mph. :) I'll keep searching
for that magical combination of positions of windows and sunroof which will
create a perfectly enjoyable zephyrous atmosphere, though.

| Apr 25 2000 | I'm blind! |
| Germany may produce a very fine handling car, but they need to work
on their sun visor design. Mine is flimsy and plasticy and doesn't reach the
spots it needs to, like the corners of the windshield. Ohwell. |
| Apr 24 2000 | Not loud enough |
| Settling in nicely. Six hundred miles so far. Definately need to upgrade the stereo soon. |
| Apr 16 2000 | Toodling around town |
I've survived a slow commute, and a jaunt over a really windy bridge!
Perhaps it is just the directness the car is connected to the road, but it feels far
touchier about wind pushing it around than my old clunky pontiac did. Not a
bad thing, just different. Of course, it could just be way lighter than a blocky american car.. :)
First fill-up today. Premium is stupidly expensive. I managed to get 18 mpg. That should improve with time. :)
|
| Apr 14 2000 | Rain! |
| It rained today. Over all a fairly miserably cold day. The A4
didn't notice one bit, though! Through the puddles and over the slippery
streets, it was like being glued to the ground. Happy happy!
|
| Apr 11 2000 | Getting Comfy Impressions |
Well, there's far too many little controls and things in this car.
It's going to take me a month to figure half the stuff out!
I do like how the cockpit looks at night. A Lot. It's got a crisp, future-art
gestalt which just exudes snaz-factor. I'll try to get some pictures.
Auto-dimming mirrors are a trip! I thought they'd just be goofy, but they're great!
The thing drives like it's on rails; wickedly solid. Can nearly do a Uturn in
the street, too! Quite the peppy little car, as well. It's going to be really
hard to hold the engine under 4000 for the first thousand miles.
Pretty comfy ride, with just a brush of sport.
We cleaned out the garage today, so now I can keep it safe and sound, hopefully
away from the brats who scratched up the glass of my old Pontiac. Grr.
I only stalled twice today!
|
| Apr 10 2000 | My '00 A4 2.8 QMS is all silvery-cute! |
I got my first new car today! It's neat!
It had 25 miles on the glowy-red odometer when I bought it. Heavens only know where they came from,
since the car ostensibly went directly from the factory to me, via a boat and the
dealership.
Here are some pretty pictures of it sitting outside after I took it haltingly home:
I only stalled it half-a-dozen times between the dealer and my driveway.
It's my first standard transmission! Eee!
|
| Feb 5 2000 | The order is in! |
| I placed an order for and put a deposit down on a new Audi A4;
I had to have it built because I don't like leather, which comes standard
on the 2.8s. I declined the Bose stereo, the sport seats, the winter package,
and the navigation system. I got the sport suspension, the HID headlamps, and
the convenience package. Now comes the waiting. It should be built 'Week 14'. |
