Our comfortable-listening sound system was upgraded, recently. This setup for sequestered relaxed music-enjoyment is proving to work out rather well:
[Apple TV] → [Emotiva XDA-2] → [Mackie HR824]

    Pro:
  • Sounds fantastic — a very clean signal path from source to air.
  • Kit feels solid. XDA-2 remote is pleasantly weighty and chunky.
    Contra:
  • Apple TV output tops out at 48k, well short of the 192k the DAC can handle.
  • XDA-2's push-button volume control is tedious.
  • Blue display is garish.
